Something interesting is going down concerning a new 'something' called Google Fiber. Whatever it is, it appears to involve Google owning a physical store front, which is something they've literally never had before.

According to the Official Youtube channel, some kind of announcement will be made in the next half hour or so.

Obviously given the name it looks like Google is going to introduce it's own fiber based internet service.

My guess is a cryogenics facility. They've worked out how to keep people in suspended animation.

I think you guys are reading too much into the name, it's probably just Google expanding into the textile fibers industry.

My guess is a cryogenics facility. They've worked out how to keep people in suspended animation.

I'd sign up right away. Fast forward me to August 25th please.

Edit: Looks like it was announced a year ago: http://en.wikipedia....ki/Google_Fiber

The other Big ISP's are shitting themselves at the moment, Google is one company that they can't bully out of the market easily and its a company that would be willing to dump the large investment needed to get the fibre to more homes. ISP's in the US especially are being stupid over bandwidth caps and milking every last penny from customer's as they can. I would expect that google wants to expand into the netflix style movie on demand and part of that is getting much faster download rates to a larger percent of the population.

Yet more power to google... Can you imagine what would happen if they shut down all their services in every sector for just 1 hour?

Crazy, we need this in the UK. I'm in central london and I either have to deal with caps or upload too low to stream....

However 70/mo is quite pricey, I know they give you a lot for it but yeah... Maybe if I shared it with neighbours 0-o

It's Google's fibre optic internet rollout business:
