I can still cancel my order but I think I'll keep it, damn the money
It's my understanding that:
- PSUs tend to be better and last you longer if you don't use them at full load
- you should never buy the bare minimum, if it's saying 500W on the box, chances are it's actually a bit lower than that or a lot lower than that - depending on the quality
- this one comes with 7 years warranty, considering that I normally upgrade my system every 3-4 years - I should be able to use this for the next upgrade
- this baby has : " Up to 90% energy-efficiency under real-world load conditions" so this should help my electricity bills considering it's more efficient, right?

This is the part I'm not entirely sure off, would a 850W PSU consume more electricity than a 500W ? I would think it depends on the load, on the ammount of components and their power need. If you would have the same components and you would use one or the other, the actual consumtion would be the same...right?
Say I get my 850W PSU , but since I'm using only a part of that power it will use only the electricity it needs to generate that...correct?

Ah yes ofc you wouldn't be using 850W of power you would only use your load.. so it won't effect your bills.

With regards to your "bare minimum" statement, your rig would only use 350 W roughly at peak load (without OCing), so 850W is still an overkill, so a 500W Psu would have been plenty. You don't counter quality converns by buying a larger wattage PSU you do that by getting one from a reputable manufacturer (Like Corsair)

Take your computer to a computer store and explain your problem and let them test it just to get a professional and non-bias opinion.

I'm sure that are professionals in the guild as well but it's always better to listen to the problem from a person IRL and it's easier to ask questions.

I disagree. They will rip you off till you have lost 100 euros that could have been put into the PSU he just bought :)
Even a checkup is too expensive, logic and internet work better :P
Fifty shades of Bibidiboo..?

I've used one of the calculators, with my CPU OCed I would need 534W (my case it a Coller Master Half X with some huge fans)

Fans draw barely any power at all, just make sure you got your Vcore right when using the OC function of the calculator (as at OCed i still don't get anywhere near that).. but sounds like the 600W is the best option though, if you decide to change ofc :) gl with it anyway!

I just want to add that the Corsair HX 850 is a *great* PSU with extremely high power effeciency and very low ripple. Watt isn't everything. The only thing that's negative about it is that it's slightly pricey and kinda big.

I can't see an issue with the PSU tbh I'd look on it more as an investment than anything else. For me at least time goes by more and more bits seem to get crammed into case everything from multiple disks to audio interfaces and encoders extra fans, controllers all sorts of odd stuff hehe having the extra is just a nice bit of headroom for such a long lasting product. I'm not sure many people could rule out a future sli set up at least somewhere in a 7 year timescale. The last gen nvidia cards namely 560ti scaled really rather well in sli as an upgrade path in terms of price so it's not always just down to super sizing the graphics to epic scale. In conclusion, MORE POOOOWER! :D

Bigger PSU mean you got more stable voltage around the 50% power usage of the entire rig , this particular PSU got 89,6% efficiency around 60% load which mean that when your computer consume 510W the PSU consume around 570W AC , which mean you only loose ~11% on conversion as heat (compared to the old PSU which efficiency was between 60-70% is excellent score). As drymedar said wattage isn't everything and this particular PSU got 80+ Silver certificate which prove that it is very efficient (and ECO as well ;) ). 850W should be enough for quite some time, IMHO you made an excellent purchase, good to hear that your rig i working well. Don't worry about HAF large fans, they are low RPM and don't use much energy.

Ok, got my new 850W PSU, installed ir now, my mobo would see only 1 of my 2 HDD, it would be one or the other not both at the same time. I've loaded the BIOS to the defaults and it saw both HDD...odd..

Now, I noticed something else. The PSU's fan starts spinning when I start it, it spinnins for a few seconds then it stops, wtf??? Why?? any idea? I don't think it's normal....

VoidInsanity clarified it foe me, aparently PSUs are smarter now and this one won't spin it's fan unless it's under serious load which I can't provide yet :D
