‘Access to specialised knowledge makes decision-making easier in contemporary society’. Discuss with reference to one or more of the theories from Chapter 4, using examples of EITHER medical knowledge OR religious knowledge OR environmental knowledge.
This is my latest TMA for the OU.

I found the chapters and resources provided really boring so retention of topic material was 0. Please help me by beginning a discussion to help me get to grips with the subject matter.

Thanks.

Hahaha oh my small world! Are you doing DD100? TMA05 I think that one was.

I didn't actually do the question tbh, went for a substitution instead since I was waaaay too busy at the time. Has the cut-off for this not ended now though? I'm working on TMA06.

However, I can give you a little help on how to stucture the essay; I was planning to discuss the medical side of things since it was the more concise chapter of the book and easier to link back to the theories of chapter 4. I was going to start off by describing the past, with things like the first debating forum that was made, and then progress from there to describe the more recent revelations / advancements of medcial knowledge whilst always linking back to the theories in chapter 4.

I gave up though - because I didn't even read past chapter 1 in the book lol. :P

Hahaha! Yes I am doing TMA05 for DD100. Yep cut off date has gone, but I got an extension due to a family bereavement. Thanks for the tips. Not sure how subsititues work actually, though it might have been a better plan. This book was so bloddy boring! You missed out on nothing, unless your a big fan of tedium?

Lol I didn't think I did miss out on much; I couldn't get through the book at all. I don't know how the substitutions work either, I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that at the end they will give me the substituted mark though I never filled out any forms or anything; I did however email my tutor and asked him but he never got back lol. Don't bother looking into any of the stuff they gave us or even on their site because there really isn't anything in there about substitutions lol.

If you use that calculator thing on their site though, it seems like they do the substitutions at the end. As it's only DD100 the mark we get at the end, as long as it's over, 40 will pass, so I'm not too fussed either way to be fair as long as I push hard on this last essay (which I have to say we have a very short time to do!).

What are you working toward qualification wise? I'm hoping to get a Politics, Philosophy and Economics degree. I've just applied for the next course which starts in October.

Wonder if the world is small enough you'll be joining me on my next epic OU adventure? lol :P

Sounds like fun, I've just got confirmed for DD203 Power, Dissent, Equality. I'd suggest going for your next course now - get a place whilst there are some. You don't even have to have passed DD100 yet! lol :P

Sorry, I lost my log in details. Also been a bit hectic getting everything finished for DD100 and I'm currently gearing up for a play, so rehearsals have been intensive.

Anyway I got my place on my course :D I'm looking forward to it, but also hoping that there's nothing on Globalization in there. That book was boring
