For those of you who haven't heard of Milton Friedman, who sadly died last year, I thought I would post a thread about him. According to The Economist, Friedman "was the most influential economist of the second half of the 20th century… possibly of all of it." He was a champion of laissez-faire capitalism, and his views of monetary policy, taxation, privatization and deregulation informed the policy of governments around the globe, especially the administrations of Ronald Reagan in the United States and Margaret Thatcher in the United Kingdom. His ideas were studied throughout the world, and played a major role in the transformation of China's economy.

Below is an (old black & white) interview with Friedman which outlines the basic principles which he advocated.

His philosophy was non-existent and his opinion of Objectivism low, but as a popularizer and an economist of laissez-faire he is redeemed in his own capacity.

Interesting interview, can't help but sense a patronising tone coming from the interviewer though.

Friedman's economic ideas were great, but as you say he held those ideas for the wrong reasons.
