Oh man, I love reading about ancient history and its cultures. The ones I find most interesting are the Inca and Egyptians, mainly because both cultures left so much behind that raise countless questions. There were also some pretty crazy similarities between their deities...

I have some pretty wild theories but that's pretty much all they are...

Have to choose Babylon myself.

These guys really laid the foundations for mathematics that has led to almost all hard sciences. Their influence is still seen today with 60 minutes in an hour and 360 degrees in a circle. Without Babylon the Egyptians wouldn't have been able to calculate how much stone they needed for a pyramid, Pythagoras wouldn't have had the tools to come up with his famous theorem, Hipparchus wouldn't have had access to observations tracing the path of the Sun and Moon. The Babylonians are the folks who started from tallying numbers on a clay tablet right up to algebra.

Plus while we count to 10 on our fingers they counted to 60 (neat trick)
