Ranger in the original meaning of the word designates a person who is specially trained to traverse rough terrain,and who possesses the according survival skills to live in the wilderness for a prolonged amount of time.

These guys really laid the foundations for mathematics that has led to almost all hard sciences. Their influence is still seen today with 60 minutes in an hour and 360 degrees in a circle. Without Babylon the Egyptians wouldn't have been able to calculate how much stone they needed for a pyramid, Pythagoras wouldn't have had the tools to come up with his famous theorem, Hipparchus wouldn't have had access to observations tracing the path of the Sun and Moon. The Babylonians are the folks who started from tallying numbers on a clay tablet right up to algebra.
Plus while we count to 10 on our fingers they counted to 60 (neat trick)
