So for the past while my operating system (windows 7) has been a bit buggy, was getting slower and slower to start up, eventually taking about 10 minutes from a fresh boot, or 2mins from restoring from hibernation (no idea why). For the past month or so, every time I sign into my ID/account thing, a warning would come up saying something about boot configuration failure for this account, where the screen would go black for about 10 minutes, it would work fine after that.

The past couple of days, Internet just stopped working, I assumed it was my house, but after I changed arround the routers, still wasn't working, so I tried restarting my laptop this morning to see if it was a fault in my computer.
When it started up, I would get to the account log in screen, where I would get the usual message, boot configuration failure or whatever. Only at this point, the laptop restarted, this happened every time.

I tried reinstalling the operating system, doing a system repair, everything I can think of, it found no problems and reinstalling the OS didn't change anything.

IM currently running off puppy linux (http://puppylinux.or...ing Started.htm) on my USB stick. I can access all my files but am severely limited with what I can do. Cant play any games, watch any dvds/films.

Any idea what I can do to sort this out? I cant get any screen shots for help as I cant even get into OS to take the screen shots. If I cant get this fixed Im obviously going to miss the beta, and probably the first few months of the game, as I cant get a new PC until septemberisn.

Any help would be awesome

I like the idea of heroine, i might even get crystal meth, as its cheaper and more powerful. And add crack to the list so when i leave from these three nights i'll be known as the crackhead of GW2.

wondering if ur HDD is screwed. Are you able to install the OS onto a different HDD ? May even be worth swapping out the memory sticks (assuming you have more than one).

if you do have memory problems you should also get BOD(blue screen of death) and random freezes as for the hdd ,that could be one of the problems

You said you reinstalled win7, but did you completely format your disk before that?

About your internet: my integrated networking broke one week after I got this PC, and have been using a 15 euro networking card ever since.

When i replaced a corrupted HD it said my PC was too advanced for windows XP, iv only got discs for windows 7, would it be worth finding some vista discs?

I don't have any spare USBs, HDD's or external HD so I cant really try anything or do any swapping out. I cant afford to buy a new PC until september really, when I start work.

Havent completely formatted the disc as I don't want to risk losing all my information encase restoring doesnt work properly, the back ups havent worked properly for a while and don't want to risk losing stuff.

Il look into the network card, but at this point, the connectivity is the least of my troubles.

Ok, I'll speak to my dad later and see what he thinks, if no better suggestions, I'll try formatting my HDD and reinstalling Win7, will post back the result. Even if it does lose all my stuff, Iv got all my music, films and notes backed up seperately, so should be okay living off puppy linux for now.

Back up your data, format your boot disk and put a clean install of WIndows on it.

If that don't fix it then its a hardware issue.

Good Luck

As said previously...

Backup everything you don't want to lose.
IE: Documents, photos, bookmarks, savegame data, emails + addressbook, website logins + passwords?, etc., etc.
Always worth making sure you have motherboard drivers for chipset and lan/ethernet... nothing worse than formatiing then realising you can't get on the net to get drivers etc!

Put your Win7 disk into pc and reboot.
After a minute or so it should start the setup process.
Part of that will require you deleting the current Win7 partition and reformatting/installing to that same partition.
It's pretty straightforward, just take your time and read everything it shows you.

If you hdd is split into more than one patition, then anything on the NON-boot-partition (where Win7 lives) will be preserved.
However, any programs you have there will 90% of the time require reinstalling as they usually write to the registry (Windows system file).

You're only 1.5hrs away from me down the M4, but it's wet all week + I work!, and of course GW2 beta this weekend.
But I could sort it for you the following weekend if you still haven't done it yourself.

keep as updated see if any sugestions worked.

also you had some bios problems? did you try reseting your bios to their default settings? through the bios options? (if it was a desktop i usually do it through the motherboard if i have to)

but ye i agree with the rest of the suggestions back up your files do a complete formal and reinstall your OS.

Cheers Dave, just been searching through my things and realised I left my windows discs at home, my dad is posting them to me as I speak, so hopefully should have it all sorted by the beta!

Thanks for all the advice everyone! Watch this space!
