Windows Vista has been installed replacing 7 as for some reason, 7 won't work. After a bit of struggling to get the internet to connect I am now on a working vista, currently installing all my required programs (skype, steam etc) and hopefully GW2 this evening. Thanks for all the advice guys!

Yes it was! Actually forgot how shit windows vista is, the fact that it didn't recognise the network adaptor among other things.... Ohwell.
