Right now I'm stil in process of getting things set up after the move and don't have wifi. Due to international rates, my data plan for my iPhone is almost dead..I had unlimited in states, but now I don't. With that said I tried to do some tethering, but that didn't quite work :/ especially because for the programs I need net connection.
Anyone have a script or some relatively small file I can DL (with my phone) & copy it from my phone & run? I really want to play some borderlands on my Alienware but cant

Btw note that: ironically, the only way I found to set Steam to offline mode is to go online, then switch it to offline mode. After that it's fine. Not fun when you're on vacation in a spot with no internet.
Go offline->"Do you want to set Steam to offline mode?"->Yes->"Steam cannot connect to a server. Closing."
Yeah, brilliant design, people.

just run the games without steam?
\Steam\steamapps\common\borderlands\(bin/binaries/binary)\borderlands.exe
steam is only a face for the games you don't need it to play any of them

I'll try the .bin thing. But apparently there's a thing that says everything has to be updated to play offline and you have to set it up to play offline.
Steam isn't just a hub unfortunately, it does pervade gameplay :/ because I went to individual folders and I couldn't open anything. Anyways, I'll check back and tell you what I found, especially whn I get internet

turn off all internet access on your pc = automatic offline mode.
Unplug everything, disable all networks etc etc
Then steam automatically starts in offline mode and you should be able to play most games.

What is Offline Mode?
Offline Mode allows you to play games through Steam without reconnecting to the Steam Network every time you wish to play - this is particularly useful if you do not plan on playing over the internet and would prefer not to download new updates for your single-player games.
Please note that you must connect to the Steam Network and test each of the games you would like to use in Offline Mode at least once to set up your account and configure Offline Mode on your machine.

Looks like you're screwed without going online atleast once

- Start Steam online - make sure the Remember my password box on the login window is checked
- Verify that all game files are completely updated - you can see the update status for a game under the Library section (when the game shows as 100% - Ready it is ready to be played in Offline Mode)
- Launch the game you would like to play offline to verify that there are no further updates to download - shut down the game and return to Steam once you have confirmed that the game can be played
- Go to Steam > Settings to ensure the Don't save account credentials on this computer option is not selected
- From the main Steam window, go to the Steam menu and select Go Offline
- Click Restart in Offline Mode to restart Steam in Offline Mode

Yes, you have to get online atleast once. I was in the same shit, since i recently just moved to a new apartment i didn't have any internet connection (ofc this was at the time of beta weekend 2
)
You sadly have to get online once to activate offline mode. Remember you need to check the box "save credentials on computer" or something like that, its in the settings menu.
