So, after a fresh OS install at the weekend Adobe kindly informed me that my Dreamweaver CS6 Serial Key had been revoked.

Apparently they have removed all volume licensing keys for CS6 earlier this year so fresh (re)installs now fail with the revoked message.

Oh, and apparently the reseller I bought from isn't recognised by Adobe

Having been a Dreamweaver user since way back in the day when Macromedia first released the product, lets just say I was not best pleased with Adobes attitude at removing the option to buy once-own forever products, replacing them with no other option than extortionately high monthly subscription fees.

I mean, come on, £20.22 a month for a single product is insane!

Their kind customer support did try to reassure me that it was only $19.99 a month but didn't appreciate my retort when I offered him $19.99 in return for him giving me £20.22.

So he offered me the complete Creative Cloud of packages Adobe offers for a 20% discount... only $40 a month instead of $50, plus the first 2 months free!

After informing him that I ONLY use Dreamweaver and PDF Reader DC, he apologised and said their was nothing further he could do.

I said thanks but no thanks, I would not subscribe to a ridiculous monthly fee to continue using a product I already owned, you've lost a customer through your greed.

Apologies... waffling...

.

.

.

So, I need a replacement for Dreamweaver.

Doesn't matter if it costs, so long as the cost is reasonable and I can buy it once, not be held to ransom with monthly subscription fees.

Does not need to have ftp stuff as I handle that manually.

I would prefer it to have wysiwyg, code & design views, preview in browser, CSS3, HTML5, site manager, etc. etc.

I'm currently looking into the following products (no particular order), so any comments or suggestions would be most welcome...

BlueGriffon : http://www.bluegriffon.org/

Visual Studio Code : https://code.visualstudio.com/

TemplateToaster : http://templatetoast...templatetoaster

Brackets : http://brackets.io/

Sublime Text 3 : https://www.sublimetext.com/

Hi Demondim,

My partner works as a Graphic Designer and she as I both detest the the Adobe subscription lockin of recent years. We know of a good competitor design product range (photo editing and Design)

https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/

However this doe not currently have any web design programs that would directly replace Dreamweaver.

I never really used Dreamweaver as I've always preferred the notepad++/refresh the browser page approach.

I've used Sublime, its pretty beautiful and nice to work with but you need to pay for it?

I use visual studio at work when working with C#, I enjoy studio for this and its free.

I've recently started using Atom which is free and open source, I also like the design (I'm a sucker for dark material themes). There is a strong community and a large range of plugins https://atom.io/.

Sorry this isn't very helpful, just my two cents.

I appreciate the comments, thanks both :D

I am going to try Brackets & Sublime Text 3 in the first instance and see how I go.
